My child doesn’t want to share at school. How do I help him/her?
Is sharing, in fact, caring? Let’s see…
How do I get my child to eat a wider variety of foods?
Mayday! What to do about picky eaters!
Naptime Battles
My child is fighting naptime, but is grumpy the rest of the day! What do i Do?
I truly empathize with parents and caregivers in this situation. This is a really challenging area of growth. Parents and caregivers rely on naptime to rest and rejuvenate and, sometimes, to get things done! What is going on when a tired child is fighting naptime?
Bribes: Yes or No?
Bribes: Yes, No, Maybe?
Bribes and rewards are external motivators. They are usually not so effective in the long run because they remove ownership from the child and place it squarely on the adults. In fact, reward systems are largely a means of enforcing an adult agenda. But, like all things parenting, it's not that simple!
Why is it important to potty train my child by the time they’re 3?
Let’s start answering this question by looking back at your child’s recent development. At 2½ or so your child is deep in the process of separation and developing a sense of him or herself as a unique individual. Your child may be tantruming more and may have discovered the power of the word “No!” Your child may venture away from you, and come back for check in’s and recharging.
Struggling with your teen?
I’m exhausted. I’m reading all the books and up at the crack of dawn with my kids. What do I do now?
This question came from a parent of a teen who was spinning out of control and had recently been sent to a treatment program.
My child is friends with a kid that hits!
My child is friends with a kid that hits. Should I tell the teacher I don’t want them to play together anymore?
This is an interesting question. We dedicate so much energy to protecting our children, yet when conflict arises with a peer it can be hard to know what to do.
Newborn stress!
Parenting infants, toddlers, and young children is intense work! In the best of circumstances this period is characterized by the need for selfless and vigilant care. There can be other complications such as colic or postpartum depression that make this time even harder. Here you'll find some ideas for navigating this sensitive time.
